Alabama Reading Initiative ( ARI )

The Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI) is a statewide K-12 initiative committed to supporting the development of high-quality instruction that will provide all students wi​th the literacy skills needed to meet or exceed grad​e-level standards. The goal of the ARI is to improve reading instruction significantly and ultimately achieve 100% literacy among public school students. Arab City Schools utilizes ARI instructional coaches to provide professional learning and collaboration for all schools, strengthening content literacy and comprehension in all disciplines.

Arab Primary School is an Alabama Reading Initiative School, and uses ARI research-based strategies to support its reading program. Teachers have received intensive training on ARI reading techniques. APS uses the Core Knowledge Language Arts reading program with supplemental activities that support achievement of the Alabama English Language Arts Course of Study. Reading is taught in both large and small-groups to provide students with the differentiated reading instruction they need to be successful.
